Amazon holiday ad with Adam Driver for banana slicer

Each week, I’ll share my choice for Ad of the Week. It’s a regular feature I used to do for the Yaffe blog. This week, I’ve chosen Amazon’s 5-Star Theater holiday campaign. It’s a brilliant use of customer reviews and a new twist on user-generated content.

Amazon tapped Adam Driver to do dramatic readings of real customer reviews. It’s a very simple set. Driver sits in a big leather chair next to a Christmas tree with lots of Amazon boxes under it. He then gives a theatrical reading of each review. Below is the one he did for a banana slicer, recounting a woman’s story about how her and her husband fought over who would do the daily banana slicing. Why this is an issue in this household is a mystery to me. But, she recounts how it got so bad they heard their child reenacting their banana fights in her bedroom with her stuffed animals. The story in her review is compelling and Driver does a great job bringing it to life. It’s a great way to use content generated from your customers in a new and interesting way.
